This little anole seems to the the most common around the Proyecto Campanario, on the Osa Peninsula.  Their patterning and colors vary on their body, but the dew-lap is mostly orange.

My best guess for these dwellers is Diasporus diastema in the family Eleutherodactylidae. It was formally Eleutherodactylus diastema in Leptodactylidae… so maybe it’s a new family sighting for me!

In Campanario, these ants patrol much of the forest.  When agitated, they move into a defensive position with their abdomen below them, pointed as a gun.  I know some ant do it, so I suspect they are capable of spraying formic acid at offenders.

Bernald, Marc, Laura, Alexa and Mauri are pictured below working on macroinvertebrate community diversity in headwater streams at San Ramon.  Bernald is an invited assistant from UCR specializing in Gerridae taxonomy.  In some photographs, a shade cloth used to exclude leaf litter from a stream can be seen hovering above the stream.
