Pre-montane stream

A Leptodactylidae

I didn’t have a chance to key this frog out using Savage, but my best guess is Pristimantis (formally Eleutherodactylus) caryophyllaceus.  We encounter it at San Ramon.

We also encountered and keyed a tadpole from Duellmanohyla rufioculis, a beautiful red-eyed hylid.

Tropical Night Lizard

Xantusiidae – Lepidophyma flavimaculatum

Working in San Ramon

Bernald, Marc, Laura, Alexa and Mauri are pictured below working on macroinvertebrate community diversity in headwater streams at San Ramon.  Bernald is an invited assistant from UCR specializing in Gerridae taxonomy.  In some photographs, a shade cloth used to exclude leaf litter from a stream can be seen hovering above the stream.

Magnifying moss

Drosophiliidae

I have a few of these for you, Pat… and Dr. Foote.

Highest Point

This was taken from the highest point (I’m still unsure of the exact elevation) in the Reserva Biologica Alberto Brenes.

Flying fly

I can’t remember whether I’ve posted this before…. I searched but didn’t find it, so I assume it hasn’t been posted yet.  I wonder though, if someone can name the family, because I haven’t a clue.
